Advanced bio-materials, Mechanical and aerospace engineering
Dr. Stella Manoli is working as a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in Scotland. She joined the department nearly at the end of 2020, after spending two years at the University of Southampton as a Knowledge Transfer Partner Associate (KTP), working in the area of non-linear optical devices (PPLN waveguides), for satellite applications.
Dr. Manoli has a background in Physics (BSc, MSc), in which she specialised in Earth’s magnetic field. She spent time analysing the variations of the magnetic field and investigating the parameters that potentially affect it. She then continued as a Ph.D. candidate in the department of Mechanical engineering specialising in manufacturing (moulding & 3D printing) and characterisation (mechanical and chemical characterisation) of advanced bio-materials (Ph.D. from the University of Sheffield). Particularly, she is strongly interested in the environmental aspects (Life Cycle Analysis) of the manufacturing and recycling of bio-composites, and the use of natural materials and biopolymers in various applications such as in the aerospace and automotive industry.
During her free time, she enjoys cooking and reading books, and playing the piano.
